Crowd Controller
Authorises the holder to check who enters a premises or event, maintain order among patrons, and remove disorderly or unauthorised persons.
Typical duties
Checking IDs at venue entrances, managing queues, monitoring crowd behaviour, enforcing capacity limits, de-escalating conflicts, and removing intoxicated or disorderly persons from licensed premises and events.
Property Guard
Authorises the holder to guard property and respond to alarm callouts on-site. This is the most widely held COA class in New Zealand.
Typical duties
Guarding commercial and residential property, conducting security patrols, monitoring CCTV and alarm systems, managing access control, responding to alarm activations, and securing construction sites and vacant premises.
Personal Guard
Authorises the holder to provide close protection and bodyguard services, protecting individuals from physical harm or threat.
Typical duties
Executive and VIP protection, personal escort services, advance security assessments, threat identification, secure transportation coordination, and travel security for individuals and groups.

Electronic security can involve device advice, installation, maintenance, remote monitoring, and physical response. We separate those duties so the right licence class is used for the right part of the job.
Security Consultant
Authorises the holder to provide professional advice about security devices, systems, or security services.
Conducting risk assessments, developing security plans, advising on CCTV and alarm systems, reviewing physical security measures, and recommending security improvements for businesses and organisations.
Security Technician
Authorises the holder to install, maintain, repair, or remove security devices such as CCTV cameras, alarm systems, and access control equipment.
Installing CCTV systems, configuring alarm panels, setting up access control hardware, maintaining security equipment, and troubleshooting technical faults.
Monitoring Officer
Authorises the holder to remotely monitor security systems from an off-site location, without physically responding to callouts.
Monitoring CCTV feeds from a control room, watching alarm panels, dispatching response units, logging incidents, and coordinating with on-site guards and emergency services.
